Speaking from my own experience, the first set tools I bought was:
1. Diamond awl;
2. Edge Beveler;
3. «Blunt point» needles;
4. Good quality waxed sewing thread;
5. Of course, you need a good knife, but at the beginning you may use any sharpened knife you have on hand.

To start grooving, creasing, polishing or burnishing leather with Regad heating irons you need:
1. Regad transformer (M6000 or M3000) to regulate the power and temperature;
2. Regad handle (cork or wooden) to transfer the power from electric edging and creasing machine to the iron to heat it.
3. Heating iron.

How to choose a heating iron. There are a lot of types of these irons. Your choice depends on what are you going to do (polish leather surface, burnish edges, draw decorative lines on leather and so on).
I must say, the most popular tips to start working with Regad are S and FN(M) series tips.
First one is not so expensive, it burnishes leather edges and you can draw lines on leather, but it doesn’t have a guide to control a distance between the edge of leather and drawing line.
Second one has two edges - one that rides on the side of your leather edge, and one that rides on the top of the leather. Both irons heat the wax and paint on the leather's edge, creating a smooth surface.
