Living My Dream
At first my love of seashells and shellcraft had me making gifts for all my friends and family. I didn't have to purchase any gifts and I was doing something I loved. Then someone said, "You should sell these". So, I made up a few items and off to the shell shops I went. Selling to large shell shops was not easy. I couldn't seem to ever get to the person in charge of buying. I was very discouraged. So, I put the idea on hold.
A few years later I discovered Etsy, and then, Crafty Shells was born. I didn't have much time to invest in my business. I was busy raising my family. I had just a few things listed, which meant I was only making a few sales. I was also selling at craft fairs from time to time. But, I still was not totally invested in my business, it was more like a hobby.
Last year my youngest child graduated, now all of a sudden I see things in a different light, I have extra time. Time to invest in my business, time for the things I love to do, it was now time for me to shine! I started off slow, I do still have a regular job, but all of my spare time is pretty much spent working on Crafty Shells. The more time I spend working on my business, the better my sales get, and the more I learn.
The best part is I really enjoy doing this, so it is like I am living my dream. My goal is to get this business doing well enough for me to be able to quit my day job. I know that day is coming and it will be awesome!
