Hi everyone! My name is Kristin and I am the owner of Create by the Yard. This fabulous business started when I decided that I should learn how to sew. I have been crafting for as long as I can remember, but I never learned how to sew, so I figured it was about time. I took my first sewing class in Spring 2010, and I fell in love with fabric. Sewing, on the other hand, was another story. There were so many patterns, colors, styles, and designs and I couldn't get enough of it. After I discovered my lack of sewing talent, I still found myself attracted to the world of fabrics. I could wander around a fabric store for hours looking at everything around me and I would become envious of those who could actually make something with the beautiful textiles.
I have always wanted to start my own business and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I could literally be surrounded in something I love. When I started Create by the Yard, I decided to offer not only fun and trendy fabrics, but also organic and eco-friendly fabrics. Because of this, Create by the Yard has organic fabrics, as well as upcycled or recycled fabrics. These fabrics are typically bed sheets or pillowcases that have been cut into 'normal' fabric lengths, yards or fat quarters. In the future I hope to greatly expand the organics and recycled fabric lines as it has been fun to hear the great feedback about these offerings from our customers.
