About

Quilting by Chance

Hi, I'm Karla. I design these patterns that #usebothsides of one focus fabric!
It all started with Phoebee (the bee):

While placing her on a scrappy background, I thought she needed one more element. With a sigh of frustration, I tossed the focus fabric to the top of my design and it landed upside down. THAT was it!

#usebothsides was born!

Phoebee (which means bright, pure) was getting her life and brightness from the very flowers she was pollinating!

Now each of the patterns in this line uses both sides of one focus fabric on a scrappy background. As you look through the patterns, notice that the front of the fabric is the main focus of the design (bee, butterfly, Christmas tree, cauldron, bouquet, seahorse, etc.) and the reverse (lighter value) is the secondary focus (flowers, gifts, bubbles and steam, vase, etc.) Even some reverse of the background accent pieces are used to achieve the right value.

Not only are these patterns fun, fast, and easy to make (no matching seams, no pinning necessary, fused applique and finished through quilting), you are learning the nuances of VALUE as you are making them!

FEATURED NOW IN NANCY'S NOTIONS, HANCOCK’S OF PADUCAH, and CONNECTING THREADS!

The quilts are perfect for gifting to newlyweds, for baby showers, loved ones needing a bouquet of flowers, coastal friends, etc. and the patterns alone are great gifts for your special quilter friends.

Not sure where to begin? Try picking up a kit that has the focus fabric and pattern together - all you need is your background stash!

Take a look at the patterns and see the possibilities of using both sides! Be sure to favorite my shop and check back often! Thanks, Karla
