Sanity-Saving Sewing
I learned how to sew around the age of 8 or 10, it's hard to remember. My mom said that I took to it naturally. I made the odd quilt for family members and then come high school, time got away from me and I put aside the machine for some hard-core studies.
Fast-forward to Undergrad...STRESS! I would drive an hour and half to go home for some R&R amidst the formal analyses and research papers (Oh why do I love Art History so much?!). It was at a Quilt show that I discovered Amy Butler fabric and her bag patterns. I was immediately drawn to the designs and shapes of the bags! So, I made one!
It was amazing how calming it was and how I forgot EVERYTHING that I had to do.
Fast-forward again to the end of Grad School. I was going mad with everything Library Science to do! So I caved in and bought a Hello Kitty brand Janome Sewing Machine through Target.com. I had recently moved into my first apartment and knew that in order to save money, I had to make some decor items myself.
A set of curtains later, I knew that I needed to get back into sewing seriously. And here we are today. I love making bags, quilts and any other nick-nack that is useful around the house. I sew because it calms me. I leave the present and enter a different realm of focus that is good for the soul.
My inventory is slowly growing, but custom items are always an option!
Thanks for reading. I hope this has inspired you to go back to that sewing machine your mom tried to entice you with in your youth :) You'll be glad you did!

UPDATE: Momma Bear has joined the shop! Just as I sew to relieve stress, so does she. Check out her handiwork! This creative hobbit is no longer alone, and affectionately refers to our crafting mayhem as Hobbiton.
