One human. One pair of hands. One of one.
Since a very young age, I've always had a keen eye for the whimsy and small joyous things in life. The sparkle in the night sky or the ladybug buzzing across a spring leaf. I've always loved creating in many different ways through different mediums. My biggest inspiration is connection whether through grounding myself in nature, connecting with other humans, being enveloped by live music, learning new things, sharing my own knowledge, and loving.
My art process is very intuitive. I like to create my art from where my heart tells me. No constraints, no patterns, no immense planning. Pure and free creativity. If a creature wants a hundred rhinestones, who am I to argue? That's why I loved the idea of CreatureCustomsNM. I wanted to create something that allows my creativity to be free without the expectation of mass producing items; that is when my artistic vision dulls and the art becomes something it is not. I want to create something unique that brings people joy and gives them something to look forward to.
That is the heart of the creature idea. A creature can be anything, a hat, a fanny pack, a shirt, an accessory I have not even imagined yet. I never really know what one will become until it is finished. I am usually just as surprised as everyone else, and that unknown is really the fun of it. Every creature is one of one. Right now, the creatures mostly want to be hats. Tomorrow they might want to be fanny packs. I don't know, I just work here.
The idea to actually open this shop came from real people. When I wore my own customized pieces out to shows, people kept stopping me to compliment them and ask where they came from. Enough people said it that I started to believe them, so here we are. A note on the pieces: the first three pieces in this shop are ones I made for myself and wore to events. Some pieces here may be lightly worn by me for an event before they are listed, and others will be created brand new and never worn. Every piece is checked over before it is listed, and each listing will say where the piece has been. This shop is a place where I can share my art, sometimes after I have had the joy of wearing it myself. That comes from a place of sustainability, too. I make these pieces to be worn, loved, and seen, and it brings me joy knowing each one gets to keep living its life.
I will always be transparent and honest about any of my pieces listed, my creative process, and anything else relating to this shop. And in an era where AI is diminishing real human artists and their creative works, I think now is the time for me to share my expression and creativity to the world!
