Hello, my name is David and I started DBCeramicDesigns because of my love for working with clay. My journey as a potter began 40 years ago but it wasn't until I retired as a professor of psychology and a practicing clinical psychologist that I turned my attention full-time to my love for ceramic arts. My work is handmade using stoneware clay, and is either wheel thrown or hand built. Each piece is unique. No molds, no mass production, no 3D printing. Much of my work is inspired by the Japanese philosophy and aesthetic of wabi sabi which celebrates the imperfection, impermanence, incompleteness, and beauty of the natural world. Pottery created in this tradition is often asymmetrical, rustic, and rough in texture, allowing the inherent nature of clay to be reflected. Working with clay is a constant source of learning, mystery, and frustration. Every piece thrown on the wheel or built by hand is a journey requiring not just skill, but patience, persistence, and the ability to learn from failure. It is also a meditative, self-grounding, and humbling experience. For me, the joy of being a potter lies not just in the final product, but in the process of creating in a community of ceramic artists. I hope you enjoy my work
