The evolution of DeadTree
My journey into the textile world began in early 2012 while I was attending college. I signed up for a weaving class and fell in love with the process of creating cloth out of yarn. Along with my weaving classes, I was introduced to different techniques of dyeing fabric. I found that tie dye really scratched an itch I didn't know I had but unfortunately my college professor wasn't thrilled because it wasn't considered a fine art technique. After graduating, I took a long hiatus from any textile work until 2020, when I finally purchased my first loom, an 8 shaft ashford table loom. I started dyeing my own yarn and weaving scarves but I felt like I needed to branch out to other things so I started getting into ice dyeing clothing (I don't sell my clothing on Etsy but I am on Depop). As time has went on, I began splitting up when I create what, so the warmer months I will ice dye and in the colder months I weave. But I wanted to find things I could do all year long, so I learned how to make bags. Bag making was something I did dabble in here and there but on a simple scale. My bags incorporate all my skills so the ice dyed fabric, the weavings and sometimes quilting. I am very passionate about my craft and it is something that I cannot live without doing. With each passing year, I feel like I'm collecting a new set of skills to add to my arsenal and honing in on skills I already have to create better pieces.
