Peter Paul Mauser invented his first rifle in 1864. It was not ideal and he continued working, inventing the integral box magazine and the Gewer Model of 1898 was adopted by the German military that year and surrounding countries made their own adaptations. The box magazine held 5 rounds, which could be rapidly reloaded with a 5 round stripper clip. These pouches held 4 stripper clips, so 20 rounds of ammunition. Most soldiers carried 4 of these pouches. The Gewer 98 served the German military throughout WWII, and Mausers’ design is still the foundation of every bolt action firearm today. No matter why you purchase these, remember this tidbit of history when you use it.
