Authentic rugs at affordable prices. Educational and Personal shopping experiences for the customer.
Decorum Rugs & Antiques is a small business based in southeastern Michigan operating out of Grosse Pointe Park. Set up an appointment to see our rugs in person or view our rugs on the Etsy platform, our Website (Decorumrugsandantiques.com), or Instagram (Decorumrugs) before they hit the sites.
Decorum was founded by mother and daughter team, Sandra and Rachel, in 2015. During Sandra's college years, he accompanied her family to Iran when her father accepted a 1+ year, teaching Fulbright grant at Teheran University. Sandra attended the University and taught at a Persian Armenian kindergarten where she learned to speak decent Farsi and was smitten with a huge appreciation of everything Persian. Since then she has been an avid collector of handmade rugs and now has turned her passion in to a business with the help of her daughter.
While furnishing their own homes, and collecting rugs for many years, Sandra and Rachel realized there was not a marketplace for an everyday buyer to make an informed purchase at an affordable price. Often consumers would find an affordable rug at an estate sale or flea market, but there was very little or no information about it available, and so, the consumer had no idea of the value or authenticity. The idea of buying an authentic Persian, oriental, or tribal rug as an uninformed consumer is a gamble – you can hit the jackpot or, most likely, overpay, or pay for a rug that turns out to be something other than what you thought.
The alternative is to purchase from an auction, a retail dealer, or a private individual. In any of these cases there is a risk that you may pay more than your rug is worth. Often times customers do not understand that a rug purchased for the retail price is usually only resalable for half the price paid if you can find a market for your item. Auction rugs need to be authenticated for design versus origin, quality of wool, silk or cotton used, number of repairs, and in some cases dying touch ups. CAVEAT EMPTOR. Thus Decorum Rugs was born. Rachel has left the business and her father has stepped in to take her place, It is truly a family business as her brother Chris has also stepped up to support many of the IT and web functions.
Decorum Rugs & Antiques is here to fill the gaps between the flea market, auction, and the retailer. We provide our customers with authentic handmade rugs at affordable prices while educating you about your purchase.
