Permetteteci di presentarci. Siamo Deep Cut. Siamo qui per fornire prodotti per la casa di alta qualità che aiutano le persone a ottenere più divertimento dalle loro case. Abbiamo iniziato con scaffali a cubo aperto fatti a mano e montati a parete progettati per dischi in vinile, ma che offrono molti altri usi.

Forse ti starai chiedendo come e perché siamo arrivati qui. Se non lo sei, salta giù di circa due paragrafi. Siamo due fratelli e un cugino: Rich, Clark e Rob. Tutti abbiamo collezioni di dischi e tutti avevamo uno spazio di archiviazione mediocre. Per prima cosa, stavamo tutti tenendo i nostri registri in scaffali abbastanza vicini al pavimento. Era un po' fastidioso scegliere un disco. Dovevamo inginocchiarci o sederci sul pavimento per navigare. Poi il cucciolo di 6 mesi di Rich ha masticato alcuni dischi, e questo è stato quello. Era giunto il momento di togliere i record dal pavimento.

Rich pensava che trovare una soluzione alla situazione non sarebbe stato un grosso problema. Voleva qualcosa con un design pulito, ma con materiali di alta qualità. La sua collezione era un pezzo forte. Voleva più bello di IKEA. Ha controllato alcuni grandi negozi di mobili, ma non ha trovato nulla all'altezza degli occhi. Ha trovato alcuni negozi online boutique che costruivano console o scaffali in vinile, ma erano costosi ($ 1000 +). E avevano uno spazio limitato, quindi non sarebbero cresciuti se la sua collezione fosse cresciuta. Così ha ottenuto un falegname per costruire alcuni scaffali personalizzati. Ci sono voluti mesi e mesi. Pensò: non dovrebbe essere così difficile. Non dovrebbe volerci così tanto tempo. Non dovrebbe richiedere così tanti compromessi.

Rich chiamò suo cugino Rob. Rob è un appaltatore e un falegname. Rich raccontò a Rob della sua ricerca. "Sono pazzo? Sembra qualcosa che potresti fare". I due parlarono. Hanno parlato di un design moderno e minimalista della metà del secolo. Hanno parlato di legni duri e tavolozze di colori. Hanno parlato di dimensioni, capacità e scalabilità con opzioni per crescere. Hanno parlato di montaggio a parete che sarebbe stato facile per i meno esperti con la forza di gestire un peso sostanziale. Rob disse: "Fammi vedere cosa posso fare".

Dopo molte iterazioni, sono atterrati su un design: gli scaffali Deep Cut originali. Sono facilmente montabili a parete e contengono circa 50-60 record ciascuno. Il sistema French Cleat può essere installato su qualsiasi tipo di superficie della parete da chiunque. Sono realizzati con il più alto grado di compensato impiallacciato in legno duro, a partire da noce e acero. Hanno un design accattivante ma pratico come giunti pieghevoli senza hardware e un modello di venature del legno avvolto in continuo intorno agli angoli superiori. Sono progettati per avere un bell'aspetto da soli per piccole collezioni di dischi (o libri o altro) o in gruppi di due o più man mano che le collezioni si espandono.

Eravamo entusiasti e onorati di completare una campagna di crowdfunding Indiegogo di successo nell'ottobre del 2018 (grazie mille agli amici, alla famiglia e ai randos che ci hanno supportato). Il nostro negozio online aprirà poco dopo la pubblicazione di questo blog. Quindi fai attenzione.

Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Deep Cut. We are here to provide high-quality household products that help people get more enjoyment from their homes. We have started with handmade, wall-mounted open-cube shelves designed for vinyl records, but that offer many other uses.

You may be wondering how and why we got here. If you aren’t, skip down about two paragraphs. We are two brothers and a cousin: Rich, Clark, and Rob. We all have record collections, and we all had mediocre storage. For one thing, we were all keeping our records in shelves pretty close to the floor. It was slightly annoying to pick out a record. We had to kneel or sit on the floor to browse. Then Rich’s 6-month-old puppy chewed up a few records, and that was that. It was time to get the records off the floor.

Rich thought finding a fix to the situation would be no big deal. He wanted something with a clean design, but with high-quality materials. His collection was a show-piece. He wanted nicer than IKEA. He checked some big furniture stores, but found nothing at eye-level. He found a few boutique online shops building vinyl storage consoles or shelves, but they were expensive ($1000+). And they had limited space, so they would not scale if his collection grew. So he got a carpenter to build some custom shelves. It took months and months. He thought: it should not be this hard. It should not take this long. It should not require this many compromises.

Rich called his cousin Rob. Rob is a contractor and a woodworker. Rich told Rob about his search. “Am I crazy? This seems like something you could make.” The two talked. They talked mid-century modern, minimalist design. They talked hardwoods and color palettes. They talked size, capacity, and scalability with options to grow. They talked wall-mounting that would be easy for less-than-skilled with strength to handle substantial weight. Rob said, “Let me see what I can do.”

After many iterations, they landed on a design: the original Deep Cut shelves. They are easily wall-mountable and hold about 50-60 records each. The design-forward French Cleat system can be installed on just about any type of wall surface by just about anyone. They are made from the highest grade of hardwood-veneered plywood, starting with walnut and maple. They have attractive yet practical design flourishes like hardware-free miter-fold joints and a continuous wrapped wood grain pattern around the top corners. They are designed to look great alone for small record (or book or other) collections, or in groups of two or more as collections expand.

We were excited and humbled to complete a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in October of 2018 (thank you so much to the friends, family, and randos who supported us). Our online store will be opening shortly after this blog is published. So look out.

More than that, we are excited to be joining the vinyl and home design community as contributors. We plan to introduce new products and pieces over the next months and years that will help people enjoy their homes. We will build interesting pieces that look great.
