I fell in love with handmade soap many years ago immediately after I tried my first bar. It made such a difference to my sensitive and dry Colorado skin that I never went back to brands found in big box stores. I hadn't realized that I was actually stripping my skin of the moisture it needed just by showering each day.
Sometime later, my sister taught me how to make my first batch of soap, and I was thrilled at the prospect of carefully choosing each ingredient and actually knowing what was in the product I used each day. I'm able to use natural ingredients to help exfoliate the skin and I also use natural colorants whenever possible, limiting the amount of synthetic unknowns in our bars. I work hard to offer a product that looks good, feels good and smells good, nourishing several senses at once. A small piece of luxury to add to each day!
Currently, I use a hot process method that I've modified over time for making soap. Although still time consuming, the method shortens the curing process and helps the soap retain scent longer than if I used a more traditional cold process method. Over time other bath and body products have been added to the Delicate by Nature line. I carefully select each ingredient and eliminate synthetics whenever possible, creating a simple but luxurious experience for the senses. Everything is made in small batches in a carefully controlled environment.
I often use upcycled materials for gift packaging or new accessory products. I am constantly on the lookout for the next item I can nudge into a new life. In addition to providing a unique gift, this practice has helped support other makers in our Etsy community, our local community and charitable organizations where I often purchase materials.
