Because of a 1950s Vintage Neiman Marcus Coat....
Like many of us on Etsy, I fell hard for vintage at a young age. When I ran away at 7 years old (to the corner of our block) I took my book about dinosaurs, my Mickey Mouse blanket and my grandma's childhood rocking chair.
My Grandma Sarah took us to the Pasadena swap meets on weekends to feed her addiction to depression glass and sewing patterns. This was back in the 70s and 80s. She was a wonderful seamstress who was patient when teaching me the basics of sewing. When my first daughter was born she gave me a box of sewing patterns from when I was a baby. Our daughter's first outfits were made from patterns my grandma had used for me.
I've always loved vintage clothing but it was a 1950s Vintage Neiman Marcus coat that spurred my addiction to patterns even further. I was at a fashion show here in Portland, Oregon and at the end a local vintage clothing shop was featured. In their collection was the most gorgeous A-line Neiman Marcus swing coat in fuchsia. The price tag being much more than I could justify put me on the hunt for vintage coat patterns instead. My collection grew and grew and from that came the idea of Design Rewind Fashions. Now I get to share these amazing pieces of fashion culture history with you. The coat I am wearing in the circle photo is one of the patterns I found. It isn't 1950s but a 1970s McCall's 3836. I love it just the same and I used my dream fuchsia color as the lining. Our winter days can be chilly so the Pendleton wool I used is the perfect weight.
Our family sincerely appreciates you taking the time to visit Design Rewind Fashions. My husband counts pattern pieces for me when watching football or basketball on t.v. Our daughters iron the envelopes and cut pattern pieces to make sure they are nice and crisp for you. They also help scan patterns and file our massive inventory. I also want to thank them for being so supportive of my "Office of Patterns" and other vintage items as I also run Design Rewind Home on Etsy.
Thank you! Take care and have a wonderful day!
