From traditional basketry to contemporary creations

The willow I use for my basketry work is grown organically on our property, in Quebec, Canada. It is harvested in winter/early spring, dried for at least six months in a shed and then, soaked before it is woven.
I make traditional baskets as well as artistic basketry mostly with willow but also with other natural materials that grow around my place. Since environmentally sound projects have been part of my life for such a long time, it was only natural to me to choose an artistic practice that would not harm our planet with chemicals, plastics or other polluting agents. It sounds limiting but, on the other hand, it helps me focus on specific projects and to invent new methods and techniques to use the materials in the most effective and creative way.
