Lizz Barnes

I'm Lizz Barnes, a jewelry artist whose studio is located in the Warehouse District of Peoria, IL.

I have an art degree from Illinois State University where I studied Art Education and Glass Sculpture. I studied jewelry after college. I teach a variety of jewelry making classes and have an online blog teaching many of these concepts.

I run a great supply shop on ETSY called Gottagettadeal, but this shop is where I get to create.

I am inspired by ancient artifacts. My goal is make jewelry pieces that will stand through time and fashion.

I've always been into making things. As a kid, I remember lying in the grass - analyzing each blade of grass. I've always had a love for nature and an appreciation for God's creation. I love to HYPER-FOCUS on the details!!! When I was in Art School, which took me forever (1982-1998), I was told to look at the BIG PICTURE. But..... I was always drawn to the details first. I discovered Georgia O'Keefe and realized that Art has NO RULES. Art is CREATING the NEW & ORIGINAL!!! Jewelry became the perfect medium for my HYPER-Focus to take over.

I finally received my bachelor’s degree in Art from Illinois State University (concentrating in Art Education, Art History and Glass). While at ISU I took Glassblowing classes with Jack Wax, an amazing glass artist. I've also taken glassblowing workshops through the Art Institute of Chicago with an amazing and patient instructor - Lance Friedman. In 2004 I received my Artisan Certification from the PMC Guild.

After graduating from ISU I directed an after school arts program for “at risk students” in the Chicago Area and taught K-8 art in a private school.

My passion is to reflect God's beauty, creativity and mystery through my and art.

I currently run Ear in the Envelope Inc - a busy ETSY shop that sells food safe jewelry supplies to artists and I make my custom jewelry. My studio is located in the warehouse district at 820 SW Adams St.

I am currently with stones from the Mediterranean Sea. Combining the common stone with sterling to create a beautiful contrast.

Our studio hosts First Friday for young artists who are just getting into the Peoria Art Community. Come and visit us on the First Friday of the month from 6 – 9 pm.
