I am inspired by ancient artifacts. I love the texture, the patina, and the story. My goal is to make jewelry, that like artifacts, can stand the test of time.
I've always been into making things. As a child, I remember lying in the grass - analyzing each blade of grass. I've always had a love for nature. And I love to HYPER-FOCUS on the details!!! When I was in Art School, which took me forever (1982-1998), I was told to look at the BIG PICTURE. But..... I was always drawn to the details first. I discovered Georgia O'Keefe, who also hyper-focused. It was then that I realized that Art has NO RULES. Art is CREATING the NEW & ORIGINAL!!! Jewelry became the perfect medium for my HYPER-Focus to take over.
I finally received my bachelor’s degree in Art from Illinois State University (concentrating in Art Education, Art History and Glass). While at ISU I took Glassblowing classes with Jack Wax, an amazing glass artist. I've also taken glassblowing workshops through the Art Institute of Chicago with an amazing and patient instructor - Lance Friedman. In 2004 I received my Artisan Certification from the PMC Guild.
I am a mostly self taught jewelry artist. I do have a certification in Precious Metal Clay, but the journey continued and now I'm passionate about fabrication and texture. I teach a variety of jewelry making classes. I love when students catch the love for jewelry making and begin creating their own original designs. I would say I am 100% artist 100% teacher. (Notice... I was not a math major!!!)
