My creative business has grown organically out of my passion for working with found objects and textiles and my life long love affair with jewellery and trinkets. The same passion for materials informed my art practice when I studied for a degree in sculpture only then I worked large-scale.
The joy in the process of designing and making something is what gets me out of bed in the morning. I live above a shop which serves as both my workspace and an outlet for my designs. One of the many pleasures about working this way is the daily commute from my back door across my little urban jungle to the studio. Which often takes longer than is necessary as I sit on the bench with a cup of tea enjoying the quiet of a new morning.
I've had a love of jewellery and trinkets all my life: trinkets mainly. It's a love that I probably developed from time spent with my Grandma rifling through her jewellery box which true to a woman of her time was full of costume brooches and bead necklaces with no monetary value but a rich history of associated memories and stories. From her I learned that jewellery was fun and a way to express yourself in colours and forms that delight. She was very disciplined about her housework routine and about her afternoon ritual, when all the chores were done, of taking off her apron, applying some rouge and pinning a brooch to her dress or slipping some beads around her neck.
