Took me a little while to get to all the zines but they’re a great read! For this compendium, there are plenty of well thought out examinations of new and classic horror media through the queer lens, which felt a lot like getting together with knowledgeable friends after a movie marathon to discuss the genre and our relationships with it. And I have some new titles to check out, which is always appreciated! Looking forward to the book later this year!

This zine is exactly what it says on the front cover, but it’s also so much more. The author’s short reviews of old horror movies are wonderful, with just the right combination of criticism, appreciation, patience, and good humor. Still, what I really enjoyed were the slice-of-life anecdotes inspired by the movies, as well as the author’s meditations on craft, themes, culture, and what it means to slow down for long enough to engage with something that doesn’t aggressively demand your attention. I might not ever watch any of these movies, but this is fantastic writing.

This is fantastic autobiographical writing. It’s not necessary to be a fan of David Bowie; the author is interesting enough on his own. Despite the zine’s small(ish) size, there’s a lot to read here, and the text formatting is impeccable. The stories are down to earth, highly entertaining, and the perfect length to dip into if you need a few minutes of downtime. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this zine, and I’m inspired to write some autobio myself!

This zine is filled with old family photos of people I will never meet, but I've found myself flipping through it every day since it arrived, and I've already read it from cover to cover twice. There's something about the crunchy lo-fi texture of the 1990s photography and Xerox-style printing that makes me feel as though I've discovered an ancient relic in a wizard's attic. I love reading everyone's stories and memories, which have inspired all sorts of reflections and nostalgia. This zine is a treasure!
