I stumbled on this idea by accident and it soon became something that I truly believe in.
When we went camping with my oldest son he would bring his corn hole game and I really enjoyed playing. I wanted my own game but a regulation game is very expensive and I thought that I could probably make one and put my own design on it. I ordered the poly resin beads and bought different colored fabric but before I even started cutting the fabric, I changed direction. Having a very young granddaughter, I was trying to think of a way that she could have fun with the game too. I then decided to make them much smaller and use my Cricut Maker to put the alphabet on them; capitals on one side and lower case on the other. I tried to invent ways to make it fun for her. We would say the letter then throw them in the air if she guessed right. We would toss them in a bucket, play catch and line them up in order. The bean bags are just the right size for child and is also great for those with sendsory issues. A short time later I added numbers, shapes and sight words. My granddaughter just turned 5 and can read almost anything we put in front of her with about 90% accuracy. We now have a 2 year old grandson and he has also greatly benefited from having access to these educational bean bags. He knows every letter, number and shape that is in the sets and we are now starting on the sight words when he visits me.
I am so proud of how much it has helped my grandchildren that I wanted to share. I then donated a set to my friends' elementary class and started selling them at craft fairs. I offer a pastel or bold option but try to stay with 5 colors. I use Kindergarten font, which seems to be easy for the younger children to read. Through word of mouth and a few friends sharing; a homeschooling group discovered them and purchased quite a few sets. The feedback I received was amazing! They truly enjoy them and were telling me how they were helping their little ones learn. I was so happy that something that I can make is helping little ones learn.
I never did get a regulation corn hole game. Maybe someday...
