A Dragonfly's Journey
I began my spiritual awakening journey somewhere around 2021 or 2022. It's hard for me to remember exactly when, but by 2024 I was ready to stop fighting it. I finally released control and let it happen. That's when my true journey to loving myself and living a life I truly loved began.
My husband and I left our corporate careers and suburban life, purchased some land and a fixer upper farmhouse, and learned how to slow down. It hasn't been easy, but one day and one moment at a time we are choosing to live life differently. We are finding our voices again. We are finding our creativity again. Most importantly, we are finding ourselves again.
Labor Day weekend 2024 we closed on our new home and then spent the weekend at the nearby lake with our closest friends and family. We had no clue what our new journey held, and frankly, we were scared to death. God knew what we needed in that moment, so spirit sent us a swarm of dragonflies while we were swimming. I had never experienced anything like it. The wave of peace that flooded my soul is indescribable. I had no clue at the time what those dragonflies truly meant or how that moment would become a symbol of what was to come, but I knew it was significant.
On our drive home from the lake that weekend we talked about many different businesses that we could create, from restaurants to coffee shops and everything in between. Ultimately, we wanted something that would allow us to travel when we wanted, something that we would be ok to close when we wanted time and space away. We decided on opening a music store. We would sell vintage and new vinyl records as well as other music sundries. Guitar strings, reeds for woodwinds, sheet music, etc. We had this vision of opening a shop in the little downtown area to help rebuild it to its former glory. So many people are turning away from the big box stores in favor of small businesses within their community now, and we were going to be among the first to open up shop in our new town. But, what would we name it?
Almost simultaneously, we both said Dragonfly. Not knowing exactly what that meant, or how it would tie into our business, we both knew that's what our business needed to be named. So, I decided to google dragonflies and learn why they are so significant. What I learned would blow my mind.
I learned that dragonflies are the symbol of transformation. When the spirit realm sends you a swarm of dragonflies, as we had just experienced, it's a sign that you're on the brink of a BIG transformation and journey. WHAT?!? Well, if I didn't have faith before, I certainly do now...
You see, a dragonfly's journey is much like the journey that my husband and I are on. They spend 70% of their lives underwater. That is the only reality they know. Then one day, when they are ready, they get the call to find the tallest stalk and climb up. They have no clue what will happen along the way. They are scared. They even panic as they make the climb towards their new reality, but once that climb is complete they emerge as graceful beautiful creatures who gained their wings along the way. This is exactly the journey that we are on, and that is why dragonflies have become the symbol not only for our business but also the symbol of confirmation from the spirit realm.
While the music store has not panned out like we originally planned, God gave us something way better in it's place. I was brought back to my creativity. I have spent the last few years creating, learning, finding my passion, and finding my voice. This shop is the culmination of that effort to this point.
