JoAnne and Ellen are sisters who have always shared creativity and crafting. Inspired by love of birds, flowers and other natural subjects, we create lighted bottles and jars using collage and decoupage techniques. Our first bottles were made with dinner napkins torn into pieces and randomly applied to the bottles using glue. We wanted more control over the effect, and so started cutting the napkins into shapes, and also using tissue paper for the range of colors. Most of our bottles are now made with hand-cut pieces of tissue paper or napkin, with some also including dried natural materials such as flowers and moss.
We find that many of our friends and family appreciate the second life that we give their wine bottles, applesauce jars and liquor bottles. We have also been to the dump in search of interesting shapes and sizes. Once the bottle is clean it can be drilled using a diamond bit, and it’s ready for crafting. After the paper is arranged and glued on, we give it two coats of acrylic urethane sealer and install the lights. Our creations are a beautiful way to add light to the night, whether as a nightlight or for mood lighting indoors or out.
