Coming from a remote village in the mountainous Atlass region of Morocco, I started weaving carpets at the age of 14 with my grandmother.

Today I am at the head of an association composed mainly of Berber women, especially since I am asked by women from all over Morocco to help them sell their works.

How do we produce our traditional carpets?

The washing and drying of the WOOL

The wool comes from the sheep, we soak the wool for at least half an hour, then rinse on a stone with a stick, it is then placed in a special basket for drainage.

The wool is put at the sun for drying well, this stage takes little between 2 to 3h. Up to 3 days according to the Sun.

Combing and spinning

The starting point is what one calls the base or chains made up of only one continuous wire often resisting out of cotton, on each pair of son of chain with a silk or wool yarn to several bits, we carry out nodes. Free bits, or hairs, form velvet; These nodes are posed one by one on the same row, then row after row. The nodes can be different colors to carry out precise reasons according to a drawing already prepared where the color and the site of each node are given.

Dyeing, assembly and weaving

Each plant (or mixture of plants) gives a special color to the wool, the yellow with henna, a combination of dates and henna gives blue and orange with saffron .... Once unloaded, they will be left to dry and cut into pieces.

The weft is a very fine and resistant cotton thread, often colored. The weft yarns are carefully passed through the comb through the transverse line of the two halves to bypass each warp yarn. The weft yarn zigzags from one thread to another from front to back, then back to front, which allows it to keep the ropes welded together.Our carpets are unique and of exceptional quality, they are all woven by hand and are inspired by cultural influences, made with hand-spun wool, boucherouite or falls of fabrics, silk, cotton ...

Rugs (Carpets) manufacturing takes on average 20 days for a small carpet and can go up to months for large carpets.
