"I am the Earth and the Earth is me." - Jane Yolen
Hello and welcome to Earth to Chandra!
My name is Chandra and I am the hands behind all the creations you will find in my shop!
I have always been a creative person and interested in the arts but never really knew how to harness this passion into something that I could actually do for a satisfying career. Growing up, I would express myself through various art forms - from painting, to hemp/beaded jewelry, to quilting, to cross stitching. While I enjoyed dabbling in those things, I eventually lost interest. One day in early 2017, I was shopping on Etsy for my next statement ring (because why have one when I have ten fingers, right?). Suddenly, my hands started to itch with the need to express myself through creation again. The feeling I would get when I would find the perfect ring for myself, the way my heart started to race from excitement…I realized I wanted to make my own stunning pieces that would give someone else that same feeling. Pieces that would speak to them emotionally and spiritually.
I had no previous silversmithing experience when I decided to begin this journey but was fortunate to find a beginners silversmithing class in a neighboring city and quickly learned the basics. After several classes and hours of research and determination, a very rough ring emerged. That feeling of accomplishment, seeing what my mind and hands put together, ignited a mission to refine, improve, and challenge myself with what I could do with my crazy ideas and beautiful earth supplied elements.
Silversmithing is something I have found peace in doing. It’s become passion I couldn't lose interest in even if I tried. It’s extremely satisfying to take a sheet of metal and turn it into wearable art that invokes feelings. My goal is to explore contradictions - hard vs soft, raw vs refined, bold vs clean. All of my jewelry is handcrafted with care in my in home studio, carefully thought out and made with love. I am always dreaming up new and magical designs…if you don’t see something that pleases you, come back again, you never know what I’ll create next!
