Mena Vs. The Machine
A fine arts painter, fashion designer, wardrobe stylist, foodie and world traveler, colors, patterns and textures give me goose bumps. I'm like a chunky kid in the candy store around fabric. I began very early in life 'remixing' clothing, no old house robe or silk blouse was spared. Seeing my passion to destroy and recreate garments, my mom let me have her sewing machine so I could learn to do it right. A few Gordon Gartrell pieces later and I gave up with the machine and took up sewing by hand, creating everything from avant garde couture dresses to elaborate headpieces for fashion photo shoots. Further down the line my knack for putting colors together in quirky but sensible ways developed a new passion and Edcentrik was born.
I spend a lot of time picking out just the right fabrics to mix and match to always bring something fresh and fun but still staying rooted in the very playful way that African women dress and adorn. To the untrained eye it looks pretty thrown together, patterns clashing ect, but if you look closely, it works. Fashion has been greatly influenced by this mixing and matching and why not bring those elements into the home? Add some spice to the living space by brightening it up with funky pillows!
