My Gran taught me to Crochet and Knit

My Grandmother knitted and crocheted every day until she was 96 years old! And she never had nor read a pattern, it all came from somewhere within her.
When I went to visit her, she would tuck away her work beside her on her recliner chair.
I would always say she didn't have to put her work away just because I came to visit, because I knew it was part of who she was, and she loved to do it every day.
She would say: "Not unless you want to learn how! You can build houses, fix plumbing and electrical gizmos, do lovely artwork, paint, do graphic illustrations, draw, and lots of other things, don't you want to add one more thing to the list. You could make nets for fishermen if you learned how to hook?" I had no plans to make fishing nets, so I usually declined, but then one day I decided to say that I did want to learn how to crochet and knit.
So she taught me the chain stitch, and single crochet in my first lesson. So far so good, that was much easier than I had thought! Then next visit, we moved on to double crochet and triple crochet! Again, pretty easy! So while I visited, she worked on her mittens, and
I crocheted a 12 inch strip of chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. Not very useful,... except as a bookmark. But still......
She was happy I had let her teach me, but when I said I wanted to make a hat, she looked at me for a while, and said I would have to learn "crochet in the round". Sounded mysterious to me, but again, pretty easy!! I guess I have my Gran's genes in me!!
So, long story short, fast forward to today, one day after Gran had passed on, when I was wrapped in one of her afghans reading, with my crocheted bookmark, I suddenly had the urge to pick up crocheting again. I don't know if she whispered in my ear or what, but I went to the yarn shop nearby, and said I wanted to buy supplies to make me a hat. They were very accommodating and off I went with a ball of yarn, a pattern, and a crochet hook, and of course a "darning needle".
Well, I had forgotten some things, so I went on youtube to freshen up my skills, and I crocheted my first hat. Not bad... (I would probably wear it while working in the shed or garage...) And from that, I decided that I wanted to make hats! And before you know it,
I wanted to design hat patterns!
Then I heard about some relatives who had shops on Etsy. That got my attention, especially when I learned that you could actually sell pattern designs!
So here I am.... I hope Gran is watching! We can blame it on her! I'm hoping it will be a success!
