Welcome to my story!
For several years, my husband worked out of state in construction, moving every time a contract ended. The money was great, but we wanted him home! While my daughter and I originally went with him when we could, this last year she started kindergarten and so we had to stay put. He could visit every couple of months (or as we could afford it), but overall he was missing our daughter growing up.
With the economy the way it was these last few years, it was impossible for him to find a job in town. Although he had been trying to find a job in Vegas for a couple of years already, this past year his efforts doubled. Through all that he had been called for 3 interviews total. Our hopes weren't very high at all.
Then, it finally happened! He got a call from a company and all the benefits - including getting to come home for good - seemed too good to be true. Thankfully it wasn't, and he's been home for 3 months now. We couldn't be happier!
The idea for this shop started because in taking this job, he also took a pay cut. I was willing to get a job to help our finances, but I wasn't as willing to leave behind being an "at home mom." The thought of it broke my heart. I am also currently in school full-time at Arizona State University studying Electrical Engineering, so time was really something to consider.
Starting my own company was always something I wanted to do, but I had never buckled down and done it. I had also wanted to start making my daughter's hair accessories myself, as it can be almost impossible to find matching ones. When I started I realized that I love doing it - the art of creating something new is so fulfilling. Now I have all these other things I want to create, and it's exciting!
Whether this shop is successful is yet to be seen, but I already feel I've accomplished so much. I've not only overcome a fear of owning my own business, I'm also doing something that I find incredibly enjoyable without sacrificing time with my family. I hope you will join me in seeing where this takes us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
