A dream and an embroidery machine
Back in high school I wanted to be an architect, but quickly discovered I had no real talent for it, I could have completed my course and lived my life being a mediocre architect but decided to follow my dreams and study fashion.
For lack of a better term...I'm now a trained dressmaker / fashion designer, and a pretty good one I might say. Back in 2009 my partner at the time bought me an embroidery machine to use with my dressmaking. Being an eager beaver I quickly bought lots of embroidery files online... but just as quickly found out not all embroidery is created equal. Lots of useless, very bad quality embroidery is sold out there in the big bad world. I dont know how some people actually sleep at night selling what they do....
I knew I could do better as embroidery digitising was a part of my fashion design course. So as sewing fell by the wayside, I decided to change direction and move into digitising.
4 Years later here I am. There was a period of a couple of years in the middle I gave up hope of it being a viable business but have recently picked things back up. My business is gaining strength and I am happier than ever at my progress.
Since I had been sharing my original name "Stitchville" with another business for 5 years I felt I needed something new and all my own. Now I've changed my shop name to Embroidalot, giving everything a new fresh look, and exciting times lay ahead.
In 2014 one of my designs appeared in CME (Creative Embroidery Magazine) on a Kim Hanson Quilt. ( check out the picture below)
I'm also on Craftcount website in top 30 Needlecraft Etsy stores. ( check out the picture below)
Hopefully one day it will be a full time job, but for now it just takes up every other hour not spent on my day job. This is my after work, on the weekend, at nighttime, in the morning job, in the TV add breaks job :)
