Our Enchanting Journey: Bringing Magic to Children's Lives
For over 40 years, my life's work has been dedicated to creating products that inspire joy and wonder in children. The journey began in England, where my family and I lived for 16 years. Wanting to nurture my daughter Eowyn's love for music, I crafted a seven-stringed pentatonic lyre just for her. This simple act of love sparked a lifelong passion for designing and creating musical instruments and toys that celebrate beauty, truth, and goodness.
During our time in England, my wife and I were deeply involved in Waldorf/Steiner Education, teaching an expressive movement art called Eurythmy. This educational philosophy profoundly influenced our approach to design, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the whole child through artistic and meaningful experiences. We believed that every product we created should embody these timeless values, offering children not just toys, but treasures that inspire imagination and foster a sense of wonder.
Our early endeavors led us to revive a beloved line of wooden toys known as Woodpecker Toys, ensuring that these cherished items continued to bring joy to new generations. After returning to the United States in 1996, I expanded my horizons by collaborating with various companies, contributing designs and products that echoed our commitment to artistic integrity and heartfelt craftsmanship.
The true magic unfolded in 2004 with the birth of Enchantmints. It all started with a simple idea: to create something unique that was missing from the marketplace. Inspired by a conversation with a talented artist and a series of serendipitous events, we developed our first prototype of a musical treasure box adorned with enchanting artwork and featuring drawers that opened in delightful ways. A pivotal moment came when a buyer suggested adding a musical movement to the boxes, illuminating the path that Enchantmints would follow.
Since then, we've lovingly crafted over two and a half million music boxes, each designed to spark joy and imagination. Our collection has grown to include a diverse range of themes, from classic ballerinas and fairy tales to majestic horses, whimsical unicorns, and adventurous dragons. We believe that every child deserves a touch of magic, so our designs cater to all, including music boxes that delight boys and girls alike.
Collaboration with gifted artists has been at the heart of Enchantmints. We primarily work with original watercolor artworks, bringing together the talents of seven different artists who breathe life into each design. Denise Marshall, our principal artist and sculptress, has been instrumental in crafting the charming figurines that dance and twirl inside our music boxes, each piece radiating warmth and artistry.
In addition to our signature music boxes, we've expanded our offerings to include Tooth Fairy Boxes and Mini-Musics. These special creations celebrate life's little milestones and provide simple, tactile musical experiences through hand-cranked movements, connecting children to the timeless joy of music in an authentic way.
Today, Enchantmints continues to evolve, embracing both traditional wholesale channels and the exciting possibilities of online retail. We're revitalizing beloved products from our past and dreaming up new designs that continue our legacy of nurturing children's souls through beauty and creativity.
