Put a Bug On It
No verão depois do meu primeiro ano de faculdade, caminhando na floresta da Carolina do Norte, encontrei uma mariposa luna perfeita, mas morta, na trilha. Guardei-o e usei-o na minha primeira aula de impressão. Eu estava viciado imediatamente em insetos como um assunto.
Eu gostei que eles são muitas vezes ignorados ou depreciados, mas quando examinados de perto são únicos e bonitos.
Comecei a colecionar insetos e a verificar livros de entomologia da biblioteca. Amigos e vizinhos rotineiramente me traziam insetos estranhos que encontravam pela casa. Gostei tanto de aprender sobre insetos que voltei para a Universidade para me formar em Biologia e Antropologia. Minha pesquisa se concentrou nas interações entre insetos e humanos. Isso acabou me levando a um doutorado em governança e sustentabilidade. Agora eu pesquiso a política ambiental e como as pessoas tomam decisões sobre recursos naturais.
Como impressor, explorei muitas mídias diferentes. Ocasionalmente eu posso postar um item vintage feito por mim na minha juventude (uma gravura ou litografia), mas no meu estúdio de casa eu faço principalmente blocos de madeira e linóleo.

The summer after my first year of college, hiking in the woods of North Carolina, I found a perfectly pristine but dead Luna Moth on the trail. I kept it and used it in my first printmaking class. I was hooked immediately on insects as a subject matter.
I liked that they are often ignored or disparaged, but when examined closely are unique and beautiful.
I began collecting insects and checking entomology books out of the library. Friends and neighbors would routinely bring me strange bugs they found around the house. I enjoyed learning about insects so much that I went back to University for degrees in Biology and Anthropology. My research focused on the interactions between insects and humans. This eventually led me to a PhD in governance and sustainability. Now I research environmental policy and how people make decisions about natural resources.
As a printmaker I've explored many different media. Occasionally I may post a vintage item made by me in my younger days (an etching or lithograph), but in my home studio I make primarily wood and linoleum blocks.
