Hi there, thanks for visiting my shop! My name is Anna Hart Turner and I have a confession to make. I love that feeling you get when you’re so excited about something that you can no longer communicate with words but rather a series of incomprehensible exclamations and wild hand gestures.
That’s how I feel when I’m creating, and that’s why I decided to open my Etsy shop Errant Hart.
As you might have noticed, Hart is my middle name, and errant means to stray from the regular/proper course or to journey adventurously. I thought this was a perfect adjective for my artistic practice. With each new project comes a creative adventure.
Most of these adventures take place at my living room table in Queens, with my gray tabby cat, Rodarte, lying next to me supervising, amidst a smattering of embroidery floss and fabric paints.
My ideas usually come to me from train/bike (depending on the weather) commute daydreams, performing weird art experiments, or staring at something (pipe cleaners, beads, forks…you name it) for long enough. While the haters say, “everything’s been done”, I say –“but has it been done like this?” I think there are infinite ways of combining what’s “been done” to create something unique.
Mixing unexpected materials and techniques never ceases to inspire me. After studying and working in fashion, I gravitate towards fabrics and threads/yarns- basically anything tactile. I also love anything paint-y, ever since taking painting classes as a kid and opting for watercolors over markers during fashion illustration.
I hope that from my studio to your wall, we can continue this errant adventure together! I love doing custom work and collaborating with people to make something special, so please don’t hesitate to contact me with your rad ideas!
