Brightening Life With Crochet
I first learnt to crochet on a whim back in 2008. I suffered from clinical depression at the time and I desperately seeked something to occupy both my mind and hands. I found crocheting to be very relaxing; it took my mind off my problems as I concentrated on the motion and counting crochet involved.
I made mostly amigurumi in the beginning - little crocheted toys and dolls - and started coming up with my own monsters and creatures. In 2009 I decided I would start a blog to share the things I was learning about crochet and also how it was helping me with my troubled mind.
In late 2009, after gaining confidence in crochet from some lovely feedback on my crochet blog, I decided to open an Etsy shop to sell some of my creatures and creations. I also listed some patterns that I had written, and found they were well received, which was so shocking to me!
Over the years I have continued to crochet amigurumi - it is and always will be my first crochet love. I also took it upon myself to learn new techniques and tricks, and moved on to other forms of crochet like blankets, bags and clothing.
Today I am lucky enough to be crocheting for a living, and still find it to be a very therapeutic craft. I thank my lucky stars I decided to learn to crochet on a whim, all those years ago; I find it has been the best medicine I could have hoped for :)
