Announcement    Facet & Fern makes resin dice for table top gaming that contain botanical wonders. Each flower, leaf, or seed is carefully selected for its raw beauty and visual interest. Dice are hand crafted and truly one of a kind.

Botanicals are often paired with other imbedded materials such as glitter, inks, metal leaf, and decorative objects. These are thoughtfully chosen to accent the beauty of the specimen and to add to the visual composition of the piece.

Facet & Fern was born out of a desire to see the natural world reflected at the gaming table. I am a professional artist, though new to working with resin. I find joy in creating and hope these little works of art find an appreciative home.

FAQ

*How are dice made?*
Molds are individually prepared by carefully pre-staging the chosen botanical inside. A small batch of resin is mixed (sometimes with additional dye or glitter) and piped into each mold. They spend 24 hours in a pressure pot to remove bubbles followed by a quality check before demolding. Edges are then trimmed, cut or sanded, and polished. Numbers are hand painted with acrylic paint. Each set takes approximately three to five days to complete.

*What do you put in your dice?*
Many things: flowers, seeds, bark, lichen, leaves, moss... all kinds of botanicals! I create clear resin dice as a way to bring a little bit of the outdoors to the gaming table. I do sometimes pair a botanical with other embellishments such as glitter, metal leaf, dyes, wire, and acrylic, but I always do so in order to highlight the natural beauty of the preserved specimen. Some plant color may fade over time, as is the natural aging process.

*Where do you get your botanicals?*
I'm lucky to live in the beautiful pacific northwest and my backyard provides most of my materials. In the event that I need items that cannot be acquired seasonally or in a timely manner (drying flowers is a painstaking process!) I do order materials online.

*What "imperfections" can I expect in my dice?*
Each die is hand crafted. As such, there can be "imperfections" in the dice such as bubbles, pocks, and small scratches. I feel that they add to the uniqueness of each die and tell the story of its creation.

*Are dice balanced?*
Due to the nature of imbedded organics, the dice are not perfectly weighted, though they roll randomly enough for casual gameplay. If you are looking for machine precision, these might not be for you. Check with your GM if you're not sure.

*How can I keep up to date with your work?*
