I am so pleased with this item. It would likely fit just about any chess set. The slotted interior makes it a cut above others I've found. Most others just have two sections for storing your pieces, meaning your chess set will tumble around and bang against each other inside the box. I love that it has nine slots for the back rank, so my extra queens have a place. The magnets that hold the lid in place are fantastic and a great idea. The box has finger-joint corners, making it super durable. This box is exactly what I was looking for to store my custom-made Steampunk chess set.

I was looking for a quality, good-looking box to store a very nice (and expensive) chess set. This box is perfect because each individual piece has it's own spot (even for my extra queens). It's easy to store each piece and each piece is protected from possible damage. The box arrived quickly and was very carefully packaged to prevent any damage.

Second box purchased from this EXCEPTIONAL Dealer! Nice Cherry box designed for more modern pieces with wider bases for stability. The design handled the pieces PERFECTLY, & the only drawback was one pawn from each color was too tight (but not a real problem as it can be inverted & will fit nicely in the corner of the opening - held in place by surrounding pawns) - about 1/8" need in each pawn area. EXCEPTIONAL BOX IN EVERY OTHER ASPECT - wood quality, detail in finishing, UNIQUE CRAFTING DESIGN (NOT needing all the hardware being used in boxes today)!! Builder's communication, craftmanship, attention to detail, PACKAGING, & shipping ALL 5 STAR!!! All aspects of the purchase were exemplary - communication, packaging, delivery, & of course the item ( chess box )! The Black Walnut chess box is OUTSTANDING & the design is much needed these days if you want to protect your chess set!! Exceptional & Outstanding box & my hope on the future will be to get one that will handle wider based pieces (particularly the B, N, R, & Pawn); as in the last 20 yrs the chess piece manufacturers have gone to wider piece bases for stability.
