Welcome to Farida Design Studio
Hello, my name is Farida. I am located in Seattle, WA, where I have lived since 2019, but I am originally from Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, I had my own custom women’s clothing business and was also a sewing trainer, teaching almost 40 students how to sew. Now, I enjoy creating new products for my Etsy shop and I look forward to helping support my family through these sales. I also hope to continue creating high-quality traditional Afghan clothing for my community here. When I am not sewing, I enjoy exercising, cooking Afghan foods, and driving my family’s new car.
I have been living in Seattle since 2016, but I am originally from Afghanistan, and also spent time in Iran and Turkey while awaiting entry into the United States. While living in Iran, I learned to sew on industrial sewing machines in a small apparel workshop. Now, I love to sew my products throughout the day in between cooking, cleaning, and caring for my family. Someday, I hope to have my own tailoring business, but first I am working on improving my sewing skills and my English so that I can better communicate with future customers and clients. I look forward to helping support my family with the sales from my very own Etsy Shop. Thank you for your support and I do hope you enjoy my products.

About the Afghan Refugee Collective
Together, Etsy and Nest are proud to present the Afghan Refugee Collective, part of the Uplift Makers Program. These shops feature traditional Afghan needlework and home decor—all expertly handmade by women resettling and rebuilding their lives in the United States.
Our world is experiencing the highest levels of human displacement on record. In 2020 alone, 80 million people were forced to leave their homes. Resettling in a new country may mean learning how to speak the language or navigating unique systems. But many refugees possess craft-based skills they can leverage for immediate income, which is very much needed as they start their new journey.
With this collective of refugee-owned shops, Nest and Etsy help create market access and home-based opportunities for Afghan artisans, empowering small businesses. In partnership with Refugee Artisan Initiative, a non-profit in Seattle supporting the resettlement of refugees, Nest and Etsy delivered targeted training & product development resources to the owner of this shop.
