Ricordo di aver visto mia madre cucire. Ricordo il fascino di vedere qualcosa di piatto diventare magicamente qualcosa con dimensionalità e movimento. Ricordo di essere andato in un museo e di aver visto una dimostrazione in cui una donna era seduta a una ruota che girava con un mucchio di lanugine bianca su un lato e ne raccoglieva un po 'e lo trasformava in filato ... poi la signora successiva prendeva quel filato e lo intrecciava in stoffa su questo enorme telaio. Sono rimasto lì per quelle che sembravano ore solo a guardare la magia di ciò che accade proprio davanti ai miei occhi ed è un processo che mi ha affascinato fino ad oggi.

Ho iniziato a cucire quando avevo undici anni. Mia madre e mio cugino mi hanno aiutato a realizzare il mio primo paio di pantaloni a campana hip-hugger (ve li ricordate?) ed ero così orgogliosa di loro che li ho indossati fino a quando non sono quasi caduti a pezzi. Da quel momento in poi, ho amato cucire. Ho fatto quasi tutti i miei vestiti premaman durante la mia prima gravidanza perché non riuscivo a trovarne nessuno che mi piacesse. Mio marito mi ha comprato il mio primo serger, e ho fatto polo, maglioni, pantaloni e vestiti, e dal momento che ho attraversato due diverse taglie di vestiti premaman, è stata probabilmente la decisione più frugale che abbiamo preso in quel periodo!

Nel corso degli anni, il cucito ha continuato a far parte della mia vita creativa e ho anche provato molti altri tipi di artigianato in fibra ... maglieria, uncinetto, filatura, tessitura, punto croce, ricamo, agopuntura.

Ora, con la nostra figlia maggiore laureata al college e che inizia una favolosa carriera per se stessa lontano da casa e la nostra figlia più giovane che inizia il college, cucire vestiti per loro non è davvero un'opzione facile poiché i "raccordi" non vanno davvero bene così lontano! Così, ho iniziato a cercare di pensare ad altre cose che potevo fare che non richiedessero i raccordi. Un giorno ho visto un modello per una borsa tote in una rivista e ho pensato "Potrebbe essere solo il biglietto!" Ho fatto diverse borse diverse per Natale e le hanno adorate! Ora si era aperto un nuovo punto vendita, e quando ho sentito le parole "Amo tutte le borse mamma, ma cosa ho intenzione di fare con tutte loro?", Ho capito che avevo bisogno di un altro sbocco!

Fu allora che nacque il mio pensiero di un negozio su Etsy. Adoro fare queste borse dall'inizio alla fine. Posso onestamente dire che non c'è una parte del processo che non mi piaccia. Spero che ti piaccia vedere e usare queste borse tanto quanto mi piace pianificarle e realizzarle, e sono sicuro che continuerò ad espandermi e creare più articoli da fibra e filo in futuro.

I remember watching my mom sew. I remember the fascination of seeing something flat magically become something with dimensionality and movement. I remember going to a museum and seeing a demonstration where a woman was sitting at a spinning wheel with a pile of white fluff at one side and picking some of it up and turning it into yarn...then the next lady would take that yarn and weave it into cloth on this huge loom. I stood there for what seemed like hours just watching the magic of that happen right before my eyes and it is a process that has fascinated me to this day.

I started sewing when I was eleven. My mom and cousin helped me make my first pair of hip-hugger bell bottom pants (can you remember those?) and I was so proud of them I wore them until they almost fell apart. From that time on, I loved to sew. I made almost all of my maternity clothes during my first pregnancy because I couldn't find any that I liked. My husband bought me my first serger, and I made polo tops, jumpers, pants and dresses, and since I went through two different sizes of maternity clothes, it was probably the most frugal decision we made during that time!

Over the years, sewing has continued to be a part of my creative life, and I have also tried many other types of fiber crafts...knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint.

Now, with our oldest daughter graduated from college and beginning a fabulous career for herself away from home and our youngest daughter starting college, sewing clothes for them is not really an easy option since "fittings" don't go real well that far away! So, I began trying to think of other things I could do that wouldn't require the fittings. One day I saw a pattern for a tote bag in a magazine and I thought "That might be just the ticket!" I made several different bags for Christmas and they loved them! Now a new outlet had opened up, and when I heard the words "I love all the bags mom, but what am I going to do with all of them?", I knew I needed another outlet!

That was when my thought of a store on Etsy was born. I absolutely love making these bags from start to finish. I can honestly say there is not one part of the process that I do not enjoy. I hope you enjoy seeing and using these bags as much as I enjoy planning and making them, and I'm sure I will continue to expand and create more items from fiber and thread in the future.
