Sharing a love of all things vintage
Fire Lake is a real place. A small lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it's surrounded by towering pines, spruces, delicate-looking tamaracks and bright maple trees. There's also a one-room log cabin with a cozy wood stove for heat. My husband and I have watched from the front porch as moose and bears move through the woods.
It's a treasured getaway and has been quite a learning experience. Never figured I'd become adept at chinking the endless gaps between the full logs.
As we worked on the cabin, we also started searching for just the right pieces to go in the small space. A maple hutch, table and two chairs, barkcloth curtains, a mix of Fiestaware and sweet, hand-painted English china all found their spots. A Noguchi-style paper lantern and a paint-by-number of deer in the snow landed atop a tall oak chest.
You'll find my shop offers the same eclectic mix of styles and periods. Danish Modern to rustic, handmade, one-of-a-kind finds. I can't resist when a piece speaks to me. But, I know I can't keep everything that I love. After all, it's only a one-room cabin.
