About Firefly Beach Studio
As a professional graphic artist for the past 40 plus years, living just outside the nation’s capital on a small hobby farm, I benefit from the best of both worlds. We live in the country, but enjoy easy access to the conveniences of the city.
Heavily into design and creative pursuits all of my life, I love spending time in my studio.
During the cold winter months, work is done in our home studio, where it’s nice and cozy. Once the warm weather arrives though, we pack up and I get to work in the middle of the bush, just outside the East Gate of Algonquin Park.
This store was born from a love of sun, sand and warm summer nights outside. My family has lived for generations in the Ottawa Valley, beside a lake more beautiful than can be described. I was told of my grandfather‘s love of fireflies, and the sight of the thousands of little lights on the beach gave him much pleasure in the warm summer evenings. The lights we make here remind me of those fireflies.
Re-purposed glass is used to make our works of art. Rather than see them go into landfill, they are rescued and turned into mood lighting for your yard and home.
We use a wide variety of glass items, from mason jars and old light fixture globes, to empty bottles of wine and Tequila.
There is something about sitting outside on a hot summer evening, surrounded by multi-coloured lights that just makes me happy. The warm lights create a soothing effect and a sense of well being.
Thank you for visiting our shop, and we hope that our lights will bring you as much pleasure as they do us!
