Here in our magic shop of wonders you will find an array of stunning hand poured candles to light you through journeys between the pages... Or just something pretty to look at. Our candles have a range of uses and can be burned, used as decorative candles and can also create a little magic if you're partial. Each candle has it's own wicked personality.

First Edition Candles are an indulgent and affordable treat for yourself and for gifting. We send candles wrapped in butcher paper, and securely packed in straw filled boxes, all our packaging is recyclable and biodegradable - we don't use plastic bubblewrapping.

All candles are hand poured by us and all have been crafted with pure cotton braided wicks. We know where our wicks come from and what they're made of.

Because our creatures are hand poured, no two candles will be identical, while you will get what you are purchasing, tiny variations will occur due to the way wax cools in the moulds and is something we don't want to control. Due to monitor settings and hand dyeing wax, colours may not be exact to the image.

***All pillar candles are created with paraffin wax or paraffin blends due to all natural waxes requiring chemical treatment to become rigid enough for pillar candles.

We also do beeswax pillars which are 100% untreated
And rapeseed wax as scented tins with no glue to adhere wicks to tins.

unfortunately First Edition Candle Company Candles are not available as soy or palm alternatives this is due to unethical labour practices and deforestation in both soy and palm industries. ***

Please be aware on purchasing a custom made candle you agree that the turn around time may be longer if we need to source components. If you are unsure whether we can send this in time for your giftee, just send us a message and we'll tell you if it's viable.

Shipping

We send via second class within the UK our candles are sent in recyclable straw (not hay) filled boxes. Our wax melts are made with recycled plastic which can be recycled again. Turn around times are accurately represented within each listing although we do aim to reduce this where possible.

We can send via first class shipping for a small fee.

We will send you a shipping notification on the day we send it to you, we no longer send photos except for custom made candles but if requested we can accommodate as we photograph all orders for our social media pages.

Please ensure your address is correct as we mail to the address Etsy gives us, You can change the address up until one day before projected shipping. We will offer to resend for a fee that is equal to original postage paid + etsy fees for the postage listing for you to purchase or we can refund and cancel the order.

We will always be upfront and communicate should there be an issue, after all, we want you to be satisfied.


All hidden customs charges are the buyers responsibility.

Please note that creations can take from 7 days to 6 weeks to arrive from the UK and we ask that you wait 60 working days before reporting a non delivery.
Please ensure you order as far in advance as possible before you need it. Although we gladly accept returns, we cannot cancel orders once they have shipped nor can we refund if your mail carrier fails to deliver before you need it.

When you wish to order four or more candles, we will separate into two shipping boxes to keep costs down. At your request we can send in one box and we will invoice you for the extra shipping.

We are also able to provide tracking where required for a small fee.

FAQ:

***Can I burn my candle without removing botanicals and charms?***

We strongly insist that you remove all decoration before burning your candle. This is in the interest of your safety as adornments can become secondary wicks. Once removed of all botanicals and charms, your candle is safe to light. Regardless, never leave your candle burning unattended.


****What do you mean when you say hand poured candles?****

Our candles aren't cheaply produced in a factory. When you buy from First Edition Candle Company you aren't buying marked up, repurposed candles. They are entirely hand made to order in our workshop from tiny wax beans into beautiful candles. We use moulds and we do not use or support the use of crayon to dye or decorate candles. You can look at our instagram for behind the scenes images.

***Do you make scented candles?***

We do, however at present we only do tinned candles and our fragrance line is unique to us due to Claire's hobby in perfumery with fragrances added regularly. Unfortunately scented pullar candles are not available as the majority of our clients purchase our beautiful pillars for decor and we recieved a resounding "no" from our loyal clients over the years we have periodically offered this.
We also sell wax melts for people who love fragranced wax but for safety reasons and inquisitive pets prefer no flames.

****Wholesale****
We offer wholesale at 30% off retail price. We have worked with some brilliant shops such as Dark Light Gothic, Afflecks Palace, Curiology Ltd, and Lakumay of Tavistock and are on the look out for more shops to carry our candles. Unfortunately, we don't rent shop space nor can we drop ship.

****Further information****
First Edition Candle Company is an artisan candle shop run by two people from a small workshop outside of their day jobs. Each candle takes several days to make and as much as we would love to, we can't compete with the often next day delivery you would expect from big brand stores. Please be aware of our processing times and order well in advance.

To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorised Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. Frequently asked questions

What is your Turn Around Time?

In order to get an accurate turn around time please see our shipping times in the drop down menu on each item. Alternatively, please read our announcements below our banner. We will endeavour to ship as fast as we can but understand that during September-March we are exceptionally busy and turn around times will be accurate with little room to ship sooner rather than later (though we work hard to speed up shipping!)

We cannot accept rush orders but we do have first class post options. This is not a guarantee that your order will be there when you need it.

Custom and personalised orders

Your order will not be made until payment has cleared. Please be aware that we may have to order components of your candle. If you are unsure whether we can send this in time for your giftee, just send us a message and we'll tell you if it's viable.

Shipping

We ship Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Shipping is 3-5 working days within UK. Working days are Monday-Friday only. We send via second class within the UK our candles are sent in recyclable straw (not hay) filled boxes. Our wax melts are made with recycled plastic which can be recycled again.

If you have an issue with your order after delivery, or you are concerned by the length of time it is taking to arrive, please contact us and we'll assist. Please bear in mind that for international orders, it can take a few weeks to arrive but *usually* delivered 14-25 days after shipping. We are always happy to recieve queries.

Refunds

We comply with EU consumer rights directive. If unhappy send it back, unused in original packing within 14 days of receiving and we will refund including initial p&p (but not costs in sending an item back). We are happy to extend this to non EU customers. Refunds minus return shipping.

Custom orders cannot be refunded but can be discussed on a case by case basis.

We send candles wrapped in wax paper in secure recyclable packages ensuring they cannot be damaged. In the rare event your candle arrives damaged, it would be appreciated that it is reported immediately so we can work together in resolving the problem. At your request, we will refund or replace any item - just send photo proof for insurance purposes.

Wax Choices

We love paraffin blended wax. It is a dream to work with. We choose this over soy because there is no evidence to suggest soy is a healthier wax over paraffin.

Our scented candles are made with 100% British grown rapeseed wax and our beeswax is 100% beeswax. Moulds are separated to ensure no cross contamination.

Soy and Palm oil industries are rife with child labour (source wwf.org), unfairly paid farmers and both industries contribute to deforestation.

To answer carcinogenic related questions, anything that burns produces carcinogens. A correctly wicked candle (paraffin, soy or otherwise) will give off minimal carcinogenic fumes, burns cleanly and produces no smoke whilst burning if the wick is kept trimmed to 1/4in.

Correct candle use

Before lighting take care to remove all adornments including dried flowers from your candle.

In order to keep your candle clean burning, We recommend that you trim your wick to a quarter inch each time you light your candle. If your candle smokes, it is either in way of a draught or it needs to be trimmed.

We recommend that you burn your candle until the wax pool reaches a few millimetres from the edge and is snuffed out. Normally this is about 2 hrs from lighting in a draught free environment.

We always recommend that you burn your candle on a saucer or coaster.

When ready to light again, trim before use.

Our candles discolour if they are kept in direct sunlight. Please refrain from putting candles on the windowsil/window ledge

Can you donate to my fund raiser or charity raffle? Can you send me items to review?

As much as we appreciate being asked, sadly we are unable to give away items. With the etsy review system, we prefer honest reviews from paying clients however we do offer blogger discounts so please contact us with your handles prior to receiving discount codes.

I need help with a spell, can you make me one?

Unfortunately we are unable to advise on spells and rituals as this would place liability on us. Responsibility is placed on the client to seek out their own spells if they wish to use our candles in spell work.
