Creating art, one fold at a time.

Hello! I have been an origami enthusiast ever since my dad brought a pack of origami paper home from the bookstore. I started looking up simple designs online, and was instantly hooked - origami is a beautiful and calming art form, and all you need to get started is a piece of paper!

Some time later, when I was looking at more origami designs to try, I saw a picture of a bird of paradise and it absolutely took my breath away. It looked just like a real bird, but when I zoomed in I saw that the bird was in fact made of many tiny pieces of paper, assembled together. I had discovered the art of 3D origami, a type of Chinese origami. This is what has become my specialty!

There is essentially a four-step process to create a 3D origami model. (I have captioned pictures above to illustrate!) First, I have to create a design! This can really be anything, such as a basket, a jewelry box, a figurine, an ornament, or even a “painting” (similar to how cross-stitch is designed). This may be one of my favorite parts of the process - it is so fun to push the envelope of what can be created with just paper! Second, I need to cut 8.5” x 11” sheets of paper into 32 pieces each. Third, each small piece is folded into a special triangular shape. And finally, the pieces can be assembled (with glue, to make sure everything is sturdy and secure). Each 3D origami model may be constructed from anywhere between 100 to over 1,000 small pieces - so this is truly a labor of love.
