Borosilicate glass+ lampworking torch+ Fine Silver and Gold+ Magic = Flame in Hand Glass
Dustin has been Glass Blowing since 2009 working independently, shaping his style and skill set in Lampworking ( stationary torch, Borosillicate rods). Graduated from Minnesota State University Mankato with Bachelors of Fine Arts- Sculpture and Masters of Arts- Ceramics. Dustin is inspired by the physical trait of fluidity that glass and clay share; and through process and heat are transformed into something creative, unique and thought provoking.
currently we are primarily selling products online, however we do participate at different vending opportunities ( Art and Craft Festivals and Sales) in Mid to Southern MN from time to time. So we will keep you posted on Facebook on the Flame in Hand Glass page.

Borosilicate- is considered "hard glass" in the glass world. Is very durable and made for everyday wear and tear. "Pyrex" is a recognizable and familiar brand name of Borosilicate that often is used in kitchen glassware and even Medical and Scientific glassware. As far as your Flame in Hand Glass jewelry is concerned: your pendant should be safe on carpet and wood flooring, however it might not survive 100% a hard drop on concrete (it is glass after all!) it should bounce and receive minimal damage( loop or sculptural add ons might break). If a pendant does break a loop or receive minimal damage please contact us. we will fix it for ya if is salvageable (only pay for shipping to and fro)
--Dustin is a Lampworker--
A category of glass blowers that do "Lampworking" which involves a stationary oxygen/propane torch and borosilicate "hard" glass rods to make small work such as jewelry, figurines and other small sculptures. Dustin is currently limited in the size/scale of work he can produce, based off the interior of the glass kiln that he used (only able to make work 8"x 10"x 13" inches)
Crucible Glass Blowers are the most common style of glass working and they use "soft glass", a very large glass Crucible/ Glory Hole to make large decorative works such as blows, vases, and large sculptures

Fume technique- Using precious metals; in this case Fine Silver at create particular colors and patterns. The silver has been heated to the point that it turns into vapor, then applied and trapped on or in to borosilicate glass. These colors appear to be transparent Amber Yellow with little flashes of Blue at the beginning; however over time and use of the piece, the Color Changes and turn primarily Opaque Blue with instances of Yellow.
Implosion technique- borosilicate glass that contains precious metal fume can be manipulated to create patterns that can be "imploded" into a clear optic of borosilicate to create a 3-D image that looks as if it is "blooming out" toward you.
Honeycomb technique- similar to process to implosion, but the image is being directed away from the optic/viewer

Electroforming- the intricate process of fusing copper onto another medium where a low voltage charge is passed through the materials to create a relief that becomes a separate part in its own right, allows artists to create thicker copper structures layered over other materials like glass, stone, wax or dried and sealed organic matter such as feathers, bones, plants
--Glow Glass--
The glow in the dark is activated by any light source, but black light is by far the best, easiest way to charge it. Just a few seconds under the black light and you will watch it come to life! Any UV light, LED lights and sunlight also work very well.

Gemstones and their metaphysical properties

Tektite- SPACE GLASS!!
Tektite is a type of meteoric glass that is created when a meteor strikes the earth and the heat and particles of the meteor mix with the sediments of the earth that it has collided with. This melts upon impact and then cools over time, then can be dug up and used as any stone would.
A well know type of Tektite is Moldavite.
