We started a business in 3 days.
A few years ago, we came up with a simple sunhat sewing pattern. Later the same day, we purchased some fabric, and by nightfall, we had sewn our first hats. They weren't very pretty just yet, but with a day of practice and a careful eye for detail, we got the hang of it. By the third day, we had designed our own simple logo to put on our simple sunhats and had ourselves a simple little mom-and-daughter business. We made a website (which we later took down), made a dozen or so hats, ordered business cards, and started selling our hats at craft fairs. We even managed to have some children's hats displayed and sold in a local handmade children's clothing boutique (that was very exciting!) The fairs were fun, but they were a lot of work. So, we created an Etsy shop, which we ran together for a little more than a year.
Our home-grown business has fizzled out a bit - sewing a half dozen hats together takes one day of time and two days worth of patience, both of which are in short supply during the school year - and we likely won't be posting too much more for a while, but it's been great fun. Please don't hesitate to request pictures of the fabrics we have in stock if you would like a custom order. Making one special is much easier than making a dozen to have on hand. :)
