Vermont Artist Takes Collage Off The Wall And Into Your Wardrobe
I've been making art for over 30 years and have recently made the leap into fashion design. It started simply as a way to alter clothing that didn't quite fit. As I tackled the functional aspects of that challenge, it occurred to me that I could integrate some of my own style into this effort. The creations that followed received many compliments, from a variety of people, which inspired me to create FolliDesign. Like my collage, the process of assembling these eclectic garments sparked a joy (thank you Marie Kondo) of discovering what was possible when bringing different materials together. Doubly satisfying is the process of upcycling these castaways into something new. Crafting these original pieces is sustainable and reduces the waste found in today's fashion world. Additionally, the challenges created by incorporating fit into design and composition fuel my creative energy. These fabric collages require a bit of boldness which I reach for in my artistic endeavors. My partner says I'm asking my sewing machine to do things it was never designed to do. Pretty exciting stuff happening here in the quiet hills of Vermont. My work can be found on my website (https-//folli.yolasite.com) and I post on Instagram (link below).
