Graphic Designer turns an old buried idea into a dream come true surfboard decor business!
I am a Graphic Designer by trade and a closet artist. Many years back on one of my creative moments at home, I drew up an idea about making wood surfboards as a decoration piece. I put this idea away and later when I met my wife, I showed it to her and she encouraged me to make them.
We opened an Etsy store and I started making blank wood surfboard pieces. The response was incredible and orders started to come in. I was ecstatic! Some people started asking if I could personalize them for a birthday, a wedding, nursery or special room. My creative mind exploded and in the last couple of years we have been running a full time operation.
We wanted our store to reflect the passion my wife and I have for the ocean, so we came up with the name "Follow Your Wave". For us this is not just a name for our business but it's our mantra.
I love the ideas my customers come up for these surfboards. I have made personalized boards for baby nurseries, weddings, graduations, birthdays, family memories, beach and tiki theme restaurants, business signage, costal home decor and many more. People also still order my original blank surfboards to make their very own designs and special projects. We also added a wholesale order portion to the business.
I am so grateful for what once was just an old buried idea, now has become a dream come true business for us!
