Simplicity is beauty.
I’m not trying to invent beauty. Beauty was here before we came around. The primary purpose of my work is to showcase the natural appeal of the natural material we know as wood.
From my woodworking studio, I produce handcrafted functional art and custom hardwood furniture. Every step is completed in-house to turn rough lumber into heirloom-quality wood products built to stand the test of time.
About my process:
All steps of the process—design, procurement of rough lumber, milling, joinery and finishing—are performed in-house, start to finish, with absolute attention to detail. Traditional joinery is combined with high quality modern hardware and finishes, extracting the best of old and new for strength, authenticity and longevity.
About my environmental footprint:
To maintain a minimal environmental impact, I use locally and sustainably sourced material whenever possible, and prioritize the efficient use of each and every piece of lumber to minimize waste. My finishing process makes use of high-end, ultra-low V.O.C. coating products that are not only attractive and durable, but safe for the home and environment.
About my prices:
Fine handcrafted furniture and homewares are not cheap. There is good reason for this. It takes years for artisans to learn their craft, and decades for them to master it. High quality raw material is expensive, but it is impossible to achieve heirloom quality with cheap, subpar materials. 'Walnut finish' is not the same as genuine walnut.
The production of high end woodwork requires patience, skill, and keen attention to detail, along with a great amount of time and labor. The end result is a beautiful product made to last a long, long time.
About craftsmanship:
Craftsmanship is what separates the novice from the expert. It is the largest part of what you pay for in professionally handcrafted items, as it should be. It is how artisans make their living, and it can be pursued and refined for a lifetime. Along with quality of material, it is the distinguishing factor between a factory-made, disposable consumer product and a family heirloom that is cherished for many lifetimes.
It is my sincere intention that the people who buy my work are not only thrilled with it today, but can pass it down to future generations.
