Where did this all begin....
This all started for me with a clay class while I was in second grade. Yup..second grade. That was when I actually made my first piece of pottery. Fortunately or unfortunately my mother saved that pot. I often look at it and it helps me move forward. For many years I worked in a high fire clay, both stoneware and porcelain. I also fired at a high temperature around 2400 degrees in a gas kiln. That kiln was about 45 cubic feet in size. This firing was hotter and was a reduction firing. After several years of producing high fired work I decided to move into a totally different look. I had a desire to introduce more color into the pottery. So I began seeking out a process that would allow me to have color and start to use my natural surroundings and incorporate them into the pottery. My goal has always been to produce work "that makes you smile"!
I have been producing a few basic shapes that allow me to decorate the pots with nature images. I truly enjoy making platters, vases and teapots. I also produce a line of Urns. The Urns have proven to be something I really love making. Sometimes I make a real connection with the people that buy the Urn for their loved one or friend. It truly is an emotional connection. I only work in nature imagery and the symbolism that nature provides speaks to people.
I have been making pottery for better than 35 years. I guess we all want to leave something behind in our lifetime. For me it's pieces of pottery. I have made thousands of pieces through the years and will probably make thousands more.
