Mother-Daughter Dynamic Duo
Kalee and Wendy have always been extremely close. “When I have exciting news or need to talk to someone, my mom is the first person I turn to,” says Kalee. “She’s my best friend,” says Wendy, “I can’t imagine my day without her.” Being so close it was only natural that Kalee and Wendy always dreamed of someday being in business together. They had always gravitated toward the wedding industry but just couldn’t find the niche they were looking for. While helping a friend shop for her wedding gown a few years back, a seed was planted. After trying on countless veils and headpieces that just didn’t work, Kalee suggested to her friend that she would make her a custom piece, as her wedding gift. Kalee had always been creative and artistically inclined and figured it would be a fun venture—and would offer her friend the one-of-a-kind effect she was looking for. On the day of the wedding Kalee was approached by so many people asking for her business card that she decided this was it! A quick pitch to her mom and Frilly Bits was born!
Over the years, their side-hustle has gained a ton of momentum and they've created hundreds of custom headpieces and birdcage veils for their clients. It doesn’t stop there...Kalee and Wendy have also collaborated on countless professional photo shoots and have received lots of industry attention. They also don’t mind bragging about the attention they have received by such TV personalities as the beautiful Dina Pugliese of Breakfast Television–who not only gave them a “shout out” on BT, but wore one of their designs to her coverage of the Royal Wedding. Dina even noted in a later conversation with Kalee that Barbara Walters was a fan of their creation! Kalee and Wendy’s work was also featured in the official "Swag Bags" of the 2013 News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
Kalee and Wendy are able to take their client’s vision and personality and translate it into a show stopping, bespoke adornment that celebrates their personal style. “What we love most about our business”, says Wendy “is the wide variety of people and themes we work with. Our creativity and flexibility enables us to create anything you can dream up! It’s what keeps us loving our job; we never know what type of order is just around the corner! This industry is ever changing, so we make it our philosophy to embrace all styles and themes!” “We love when our clients open their Frilly Bits package, see their vision materialized, and squeal with delight,” says Kalee. “It’s infectious and we can’t get enough! Not only have we been able to fulfill our dream of someday working together, but we’ve created something really special in the process”
