Every item From The Vanity has a story!

Hi there! My name is Matthew, and I want to welcome you to my Etsy shop, From The Vanity. Antiques have been my greatest passion since childhood. Instead of playing with toys, I was collecting anything and everything old! From birth, my mother would take me to antique shops and thrift stores, and I would use my little allowance to get anything I could afford - a chipped teacup with no saucer, a vase that was glued back together or a piece of costume jewelry missing a few stones. Now, I want to turn my passion for this into a business; if not a business, then at least a hobby that financially supports itself.

The name From The Vanity seems fitting, as most (but not all) of my items are formal and feminine, often found in a vanity table, a powder room or a jewelry box. I have a vast collection, and it's time to pass some of my treasures on so that others can get the same enjoyment out of them as me. After all, it's as good as new when it's new to you!

Selling online is very new to me, and I am just getting started, so if I do not acknowledge your purchase within a few hours, please contact me again. I will reply as quickly as possible, and all shipments will be processed within 1-3 days.

From The Vanity is my online antique/vintage business, though I also operate several physical locations. While I pride myself on a diverse selection of merchandise, I specialize in items that were once found in wardrobes of the past - clothing, handbags, hats, gloves, jewelry, neckties and similar treasures. The intriguing fashions of yesterday are becoming quite difficult to find due to renewed interest, but this does not keep me from offering the highest-accessible quality at the most-affordable prices. Unlike many shopkeepers, I do not buy lots (bulk); rather, each item is carefully selected and meticulously reviewed to ensure total customer satisfaction. I wake up every morning thinking about what long-forgotten treasures I might find when picking that day, and I hope to make buying and selling a full-time career. Your business, including listing views and favorites, purchase reviews and personal messages, means a great deal to me and helps me become better at the business I love. Payment
If payment cannot be made during the checkout process, please contact me. I will do my best to make the transaction a painless process. Items are shipped once payment is received and confirmed. Acceptable methods of payment are Direct Checkout, money orders and personal checks that I have received and that have cleared.

Orders cannot be cancelled after items have shipped. However, I am happy to help if you change your mind prior to shipment. See Refund Policy for further information.
Shipping
I ship all of my sales within the United States via Priority Mail. Because many large items are more easily damaged than smalls, large items and multiple orders are automatically shipped Priority. This way, the customer and I are provided with both parcel insurance and a tracking number. By using this service, the customer can be sure that the item will arrive promptly and safely. If the package was lost or damaged during shipment, I receive financial compensation from the post office, which I immediately transfer to the customer. No matter the fate of your item(s), you will not lose your purchase investment if you live within the States.

I wrap all items in several layers of bubble wrap when necessary. This ensures the utmost protection of your item during transit.

All items are shipped no later than three (3) days after an order is placed, unless I am unable to do so. If this is the case, you will be promptly notified.

I cannot guarantee precise arrival dates. Typically, however, an order shipped Priority within the United States arrives within two (2) business days. If an order takes longer than a reasonable amount of time, please notify me so we may work together to resolve the matter.

If the shipping address differs from the one provided automatically during checkout, please notify me as quickly as possible. I am happy to ship to alternate destinations within the country to which you've paid to ship.
Refunds and Exchanges
All items shipped within the United States are fully covered by insurance through Priority Mail. While it costs a few dollars more than First Class, you may rest assured that you will not lose your monetary investment even if the item(s) is/are lost or arrive(s) damaged.

While I describe my listings as truthfully as possible and only offer items that are free of major damage, please remember that all items have been owned and used prior to my acquisition. As such, light wear is to be expected, some of which might escape my eyes during inspection. I try to photograph all items as thoroughly as I can and am honest about any obvious imperfections that I find.

If an item arrives damaged or fails to arrive at all, please notify me immediately. If the item was damaged, please send thorough photographic evidence and a detailed written description. I need this information to collect the insurance so that I may reimburse you.

Unless the reasons above are applicable and proof has been received and confirmed, all sales are final.

I kindly ask that you contact me before leaving a negative review, as I will gladly to do all within my power to give you a positive buying experience. After a review is left, it is a permanent and personal reflection of the manner in which I conduct my business, which I take very seriously. I respectfully ask you to take this into consideration.

I will NOT issue refunds if:

1. The buyer changed her/his mind.
2. The item does not fit properly and I disclosed its indicated size and/or dimensions.
3. The color is slightly darker, lighter, faded or more saturated than the photographs indicate. The type of lighting employed in my photography varies from listing to listing. I always mention this in any listing where the lighting may impact the hue.

Please do not return an item without discussing the matter with me. Because each transaction is unique, I must carefully assess all evidence before accepting any returned item(s). Items that are sent back to me without my written compliance may not be refunded. When mailing a return, tracking information must be obtained by the buyer and sent to me as soon as possible.
Additional policies and FAQs
AUTHENTICITY: I carefully research all items that I acquire for inventory. However, as I deal in vintage items, I can only guarantee age and authenticity to the best of my personal expertise and capability. I do not offer any items for sale that I suspect of being replicas or imitations. Buyers should examine all photos provided carefully before purchasing.

ALL RETURNING CUSTOMERS: Please note that the 15% repeat customer discount applies to regularly-priced items ONLY and does not include sale items. Sale items include those listed in the Weekly Sales section, as well as any special sales that may be running.

RESERVING ITEMS:
While I try to accommodate every shopper's needs and am able to do so in a multitude of ways, I cannot reserve a listing indefinitely. As a general rule, I only reserve an item for forty-eight hours unless a specific date is previously agreed upon. In the interest of both my shop's integrity and the fairness of other buyers, I am unable to reserve an item for longer than five days. Items not purchased after a specified date will no longer be reserved and shall be considered available to all for purchase.
