Form and Function, realized Beautifully.
Functionality + Beauty. This is what I strive to achieve here at Function Pottery. I have considered form and appeal while creating my line of ceramic wares. I want to offer something that feels good in your hand and is pleasing to the eye. Something that you want to make part of your daily rituals; that invigorating cup of coffee in the morning, the comforting bowl of soup at the end of a long day. These are activities that we will take part in regardless of whether or not we are using a handcrafted item. But, when we incorporate handmade items into our routines, we open the door to elevating what can be a mundane act to something to enjoy. Something to savor. Something... special.
I started in ceramics during my senior year of college. I had to take an art class to fulfill a general education requirement, and truthfully, I thought ceramics would be easier than painting. But this somewhat silly reasoning led me to what I have made into a career. I fell in love with clay. I tried a few other types of work after graduation, but I couldn't find peace in anything other than clay. And I have spent the last six years building a line, a look, a feel.
I believe my line is modern with mass appeal. I have made each item strong enough to stand alone, but I have also developed shapes and colors that work well as sets. So whether you're looking for the perfect mug to start your day, the bowl for your favorite ice cream dessert, or a hanging planter to bring a bit of nature's serenity indoors, I hope you find something in my shop that makes you smile, and elevates your everyday.
