Ephemera: Things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time; Objects that, when they were produced, were not intended to last a long time or were specially produced for one occasion
Funereal Ephemera is a collection of gloomy and spooky items that were not intended to last for decades - And yet, they have.
This shop has changed and evolved over the years, but at the core, it is still very much the same. I'm inspired by my own collection and I curate the shop as if I was curating a museum.
For many years, the heart of the shop was the funeral photographs - Both postmortem photography and cemetery photography. Those things will ALWAYS be present in the shop, but in my time scouring photos and paper, I've found so many more things that inspire me and fascinate me.
I once said that I collect photographs that have been separated from their families, and I find these photographs new caregivers. I've expanded, and I'm finding new caregivers for so much more - I'm also finding a second life for items that are damaged beyond repair in their original form.
One thing that has not changed is my respect for humans and human life. I've chosen not to sell photographs depicting real-life violence or violent deaths. I do occasionally choose to sell war related items, as I feel that this history should be preserved, but I will not sell crime scene photos or other images glorifying harm to self or harm to others.
