I'm a graphic designer whose love for textile has finally found a way to be realized.
I design objects that play with transitions from graphic two-dimensionality into tactile three dimensions.
I have a BA in English Literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Master of Design from HIT, Holon Institute of Technology. I graduated with honors and my final project was awarded "Outstanding Final Project". My two degrees outline my great passions: for design, art and literature. My Masters project was the first step I took in combining my areas of interest, and this path continues to grow.
ABOUT FUNGI
Fungi Collar scarves are a whimsical and personal adaptation of the traditional Japanese art of Shibori.
Shibori is used in fabric design to manipulate surfaces and, more commonly, for dyeing fabric. Various techniques of folding and tying are employed to create different patterns and shapes. Traditionally, the patterns of folding and tying define how color will be laid out on the fabric and dictate the patterns, so that there is a correlation between color and shape.
In my collection I was curious to see how Shibori would operate on an existing pattern, and how different shapes react when fabric manipulation goes against them instead of complementing them. I use Shibori to change the texture of the fabric, breaking the printed pattern to create incidental and surprising new shapes.
Japanese crafts are renowned for their immaculate precision; I love and admire their beauty - yet choose disorder as my mode of design, seeking the unregulated beauty of disruption.
