50 years now and still going strong using glass and fire to create hand blown glass jewelry and sculptures that why we are called GLASSnFIRE
I was 12 years old traveling to Canada following the Rocky Mountains and camping with my parents and some friends. We ended up in Seattle Washing at the worlds fair trade center looking at the different trades from around the world. Mexico was represented by a glass blower or better known in the glass circles as a lamp-worker (someone who uses a torch to melt and shape glass rods and tubes that have already been formed). So intrigued by the worker who spoke no English. So I just observed. I knew at that moment what I wanted to be when I got older. I didn't wait though. I started right away. I found out from a science teacher what kind of glass and I found some stirring rods at a hobby store. It happened to be the right kind of glass and with the help of my Dads cutting torch in his garage I was off to becoming a glass artist. At 15 I had my 1st business. By 19 I started wholesaling glass to gift shops. Now 50 some years later I am still going strong. I hope to make glass for another 15 to 20 years. I have focused on blown glass jewelry and I specialize in sea life with my focus on sea turtles octopus and other sea creatures. Glass still fascinates me but I feel I still have lots to learn.
